Ackerman advances to national meet

New Trier senior Courtney Ackerman qualified for the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships on Saturday in San Diego by placing fifth at the Midwest Regional.
Ackerman, a Wilmette resident, completed the 5K course at Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha in 17 minutes, 13 seconds, on Nov. 24.
The top-10 finishers at the regional advanced to the national finals. The championship field also will consist of the top-10 finishers from the Northeast, South and West regional meets.
Ackerman finished third as an individual at the Class 3A state cross country meet on Nov. 3, leading the Trevians to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
