Wilmette residents have been the unwilling recipients of identity thieves’ attentions recently, especially those operating in the southern United States, according to Wilmette police. Two residents who hold a joint bank account told police March 19 that someone had used their credit card information to buy about $540 in goods from a pharmacy, an auto parts store and a grocery store in two North Carolina communities. Two days later, another Wilmette woman learned from her bank that someone tried to buy $106 in goods from a Louisiana Target store, using information from her credit card. WILMETTE — A carload of Evanston teens who allegedly threw eggs at a Wilmette home Feb. 15 ended up going home with traffic, alcohol and drug-related tickets, after the homeowner forced them to stick around while he called police. Police reported that the homeowner called officers to his house on the 1700 block of Central Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. They found five teens on the scene, all of whom reportedly admitted to throwing eggs at the building. When police checked the car the teens were using, officers found a small amount of marijuana, some drug paraphernalia, and alcohol.
