An Oak Brook contractor with a passion for Prairie School architecture has come to the rescue of the tiny Schindler-Wright cottage once targeted for demolition on Wilmette’s Isabella Avenue. Joe Catrambone said Friday he plans to dismantle the building, now at 1320 Isabella St., and take all of its original components to his Wauconda lakefront property. Area residents have long known that it’s usually cooler by the lake during summer. In keeping with that theme, the Wilmette Historical Society is featuring three lakefront homes in its 25th annual spring house walk from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 20. The walk will showcase homes from the 1920s and ’30s “built by the exceptional architects Philip Maher, Abraham Epstein and Richard Powers,” according to a news release from the museum.
