The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Wilmette and Kenilworth Police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court, Skokie, unless indicated otherwise.

Post, 18, of 212 Greenleaf, as well as to one 17-year-old Wilmette juvenile, after finding them at Gillson Park shortly after 11:30 p.m. All three were released to their parents; the initial report didn’t indicate if the three were given court dates.

BURGLARY

Police said a patrol officer stopped two 17-year-old teens from Skokie when he saw then on the 800 block of Romona Road shortly before 5 a.m., and found what appeared to be proceeds from a burglary in their backpacks. Police said the two were brought into the police department for further questioning, and they told officers they had entered unlocked vehicles in the area. They also identified the items they had stolen from vehicles.

A resident of the 2600 block of Laurel Lane told police June 30 that someone went into his unlocked car overnight at took a mobile phone valued at $200, $5 in coins, a phone charger and a radio adaptor. The resident was later able to identify his items when they were recovered from two Skokie teens who officers had stopped that same night on Romona Road.

A resident of the 300 block of Greenleaf Avenue told police June 26 that her home had been burglarized, and wedding bands and other jewelry, valued at a rough total of $6,000 had been taken. She said she woke up around 2 a.m. and noticed her cat in the bedroom, which was unusual because she always shut the bedroom door to keep it out. About 45 minutes later she went downstairs and saw the sliding door halfway opened, and the screen from her back window on the ground outside. However she didn’t call the police at that point because she didn’t see anything missing. As she walked back upstairs around 4 a.m., she spotted a pillow case on the stairs, but still didn’t call police. When she and her husband finally got up, they found their bedroom armoire disturbed and items left on the floor. Later, a neighbor told officers that she had been awakened around 2:30 a.m. that morning by the sound of a car door; when she looked out the window, she saw two people in a van that shortly thereafter drove away.

A resident of the 1500 block of Central Avenue told police June 28 that someone got into her garage between June 22 and 27 and took a girls bicycle valued at $350.

She said she had left the bicycle unlocked.A resident of the 300 block of Skokie Court told police June 27 that someone stole his bicycle, valued at $150 when he left it locked to a tree in the parkway of the 300 block of Vista Court.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A Public Works employee called police June 28 to tell them that a teenage boy was riding on the back of a village-owned truck while the employee was driving it. He said he saw the boy via the rear-view camera on the truck. When he realized the boy was riding on the back bumper, and apparently “tagging” the truck while doing so, the employee stopped and got out of the truck cab. The boy took off, leaving behind a navy backpack with white stripes. The employee found the boy had indeed defaced the truck with markers. Police checked the boy’s backpack for identifying information and the case is continuing.

Someone scrawled graffiti, including a picture of a smoking dragon and a sketch of half a face, on a door at Fifth Third Bank, 1235 Green Bay Road, on June 25.

ANIMAL

A resident of the 1900 block of Birchwood Avenue told police June 26 that his daughter had taken the family dog, a one-year-old mixed breed, from the house on June 18, saying she needed to because didn’t think the air conditioning in his home was working. Despite several attempts to convince his daughter to return the dog, she was keeping it in her Northbrook home. She told officers who checked that the dog was really hers because she had taken it in as a stray when she was out of state. The woman’s father presented police with several veterinary bills and proof of vaccination to back up his claim to the dog. Police eventually advised the woman’s father that this was a civil matter.

KENILWORTH
