Wilmette and Kenilworth police blotter for June 21, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Wilmette and Kenilworth Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court, Skokie, unless indicated otherwise.

WILMETTE

ALCOHOL

Micaela A. Ruiz, 20, of 2345 N. Mason in Chicago is scheduled to appear July 11 in Cook County Court on charges of driving without a license, carrying open liquor, following an incident on the 1400 block of Lake Avenue. Police arrested her after finding her car stopped in the road, with its hazard lights on.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 600 block of Forest Avenue told police June 10 that someone entered her unlocked garage and took a new bicycle valued at $372, and left behind a very used bicycle.

A resident of the 700 block of Central Avenue told police June 11 tht someone got into their unlocked garage overnight and took a music player valued at $300 from the car parked inside.

A resident of the 400 block of Central Avenue told police June 12 that someone got into her open garage June 11 and took two bicycles, valued at a total of $900. Evanston police later recovered one bicycle, valued at $400. She told police the service dooor to the garage is always unlocked, but that the bikes could have been taken when the overhead door was open.

An officer patrolling the 200 block of 9th St. June 10 discovered two automobiles which had been entered and searched. The owner of both said the two were unlocked. Although items had been searched and tossed from the vehicles, nothing appeared to have been taken. During the same period the officer found a third car, which appeared to have been searched. The owner said it had been parked, unlocked, but that nothing had been taken.

A resident of the 300 block of Central Avenue told police June 12 that someone got into her unlocked car and searched it. She said nothing had been taken.

A Lake Zurich man told police June 12 that someone stole four power tools valued at $2,900, including a gas-powered nail gun from out of his van on June 11, while it stood in the Carson Pirie Scott west parking lot. Whoever did it used force to punch out the lock on the van’s sliding door.

A Glenview woman told police June 12 that someone took a jewelry box filled with pearl and amethyst jewelry, valued at more than $10,000, from her car while it was parked in the Edens Plaza lot at 3232 Lake Ave probably on June 8. She said she had just retrieved the jewelry from a Wilmette bank’s safety deposit box, and had left its box on the floor of the car. She said she thought she locked her car. She didn’t discover the loss until June 10.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 600 block of Washington Avenue told police June 12 that someone took her mountain bicycle, valued at $878 overnight from her unlocked garage.

THEFT

A resident of the 300 block of Ridge Road told police June 14 that someone stole his daughter’s bicycle, valued at $200, overnight, from where it had been placed, unlocked, against a fence on his property. The man said his own bike had been stolen within the past few weeks from the same location, although it had been locked.A Wilmette woman told police June 12 that someone took her iPhone and $60 in cash, sometime June 6 or 7 while she was at a party on the 3500 block of Riverside Drive. She said the loss totaled $500.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 700 block of Sheridan Road told police June 13 that someone pulled four bushes on her property partly out of the ground overnight. She said her husband heard people outside the house the previous night around11:30 p.m., possibly intoxicated. The damage to the bushes, and to an electrical gate whose hinges and frame were also damaged, totaled $650.A resident of the 200 block of Sunset Drive told police June 11 that someone “egged” her automobile. Police reporting seeing egg on the driver’s side, and eggshells along that side of her car. She said it was the second time the car had been hit with eggs, but that she hadn’t reported the first incident because it hadn’t involved as much eggs.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A woman told police June 14 that someone came to the door of her employer the previous day, on the 3200 block of Sprucewood Avenue, and told her the homeowner had spoken to him several years earlier about doing chimney repairs. She became suspicious and asked him why his truck didn’t have license plates. Then she asked for a business card. He gave her a flier with a phone number for “Joe” and explained his truck was new, but became nervous and left the area. When she tried to call the number, voicemail indicated a different person. Police advised the woman to contact them if she saw the truck again, and to call if anyone solicited business without a permit.

A resident of the 600 block of Gregory Avenue told police June 14 that a strange man walked into his house through an unlocked rear door, shortly before 9:30 p.m. that night. The man, who had light-colored hair and was wearing a T-shirt with a logo on it, and khaki shorts, walked past him and into the living room, then said, “This isn’t the Star’s house. Excuse me.” He then left through the back door. Another resident of the house confirmed the incident.

KENILWORTH

DRUGS

Maxwell Rice, 20, of 546 Westley Road in Glencoe, was arrested June 13 and issued a village citation for possessing marijuana, following a traffic stop on the 600 block of Green Bay Road.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 200 block of Essex Road told police June 12 that someone got into his unlocked garage the previous night and took two bicycles, each valued at more than $500. One was recovered later June 12 by Evanston police.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 600 block of Abbotsford Road told police June 14 that someone broke a small front window in her house overnight. The resident said she’d heard the sound of breaking glass sometime June 13. It didn’t appear as if anyone had followed that up by trying to get into the house.
