While Wilmette Public Works crews labored to clear village streets of snow from the first winter storm of 2012, Wilmette police also kept busy — in large part ticketing vehicles parked where they interfered with snow plows.
Between Thursday night and Friday morning, officers ticketed 92 vehicles for violating Wilmette’s snow-parking ban, Wilmette Police Cmdr. Patrick Collins said Friday.
Wilmette’s snow ban goes into effect after two or more inches of snow hits the ground, and prohibits vehicles from parking on either side of the street for 24 hours after the snow stops, or until clearing operations are complete.
The street parking ban was lifted Friday afternoon.
Police also reported nine storm related automobile crashes. Officers dealt with 10 vehicle assist calls, and helped the Illinois State Police by temporarily shutting down the Skokie Edens Expressway ramp, Collins said.
