An early-morning fire Wednesday caused about $250,000 damage to a two-story frame house in Glencoe. No one was hurt.
The fire was discovered at 2:12 a.m. by a passing Glencoe patrolman, Lt. Lee Weinzimmer, who saw flames burning through the enclosed porch on the north side of the house at 295 BGreenwood Ave. He called in the fire and headed to the front door, and met the residents comning out. A mother and a daughter had been awakened by smoke alarms.
The first fire units arrived six minutes later, and headed into the house to fight the fire, stopping the flames in about a half hour, Deputy Public Safety Chief Al Kebby said.
He said the fire appears to have started in the porch, and is suspected to be of electrical origin.
The fire caused extensive damage to the north side of the house. Glencoe Family Services and the insurance company worked together to provide emergency housing, Kebby said.
