Suit: Woman dies after multiple plastic surgeries in one day

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed Wednesday by the estate of a woman who died after being under anesthesia for eight hours while having multiple plastic surgery procedures last year in north suburban Wilmette.

Maria Keegan had a facelift, neck lift and breast implant/modification surgeries performed July 14, 2011, by Dr. Mark L. Zukowski at The Zukowski Center for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in Wilmette, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

Keegan developed respiratory distress during recovery and died two days later at Skokie Hospital, the suit said.

The suit claims Zukowski failed to have the necessary equipment and personnel for the surgeries and Zukowski negligently and carelessly performed operated at an outpatient surgicenter.

The eight-count suit seeks more than $400,000.

Zukowski could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
