Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers had it right when they celebrated fascinating rhythm in their dance-movie classics; it’s hard to feel bad, or give in to the post-holiday blues, if you’re watching a group of enthusiastic young dance aficionados tap, whirl, or jete through a routine.
People will have the chance to experience the joy of dance Saturday, when students, instructors and professional dancers perform at the sixth annual Winter Silhouettes concert, presented by the Wilmette Park District’s Wilmette Center for Dance.
More than two dozen students, as well as teachers and professionals, will present ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop and other dance performances in two Jan. 14 concerts at the Community Recreation Center, dance instructor Sarah Heston said last week. That will include pieces by 20 students from the center’s competitive dance team.
Students, teachers, and professional dancers scheduled to perform in the concert have been rehearsing 21 pieces since September, Heston added.
This year’s performances start at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; general seating tickets cost $5. For performance or ticket information, contact Sarah Heston at (847) 920-3927 or sheston@wilpark.org
