Wilmette paramedics transported a Northfield man to Evanston hospital for observation Oct. 4, after he apparently drove his car over a parking lot barrier, knocking over a tree before coming to rest in a ditch.

The 81-year-old driver was not ticketed for the afternoon mishap, which occurred about 4:15 p.m. on the 1900 block of Lake Avenue, just west of Ridge Road.

According to police, the man was in a parking lot to the rear of a condominium building when he drove his 2005 Lexus over a parking stall barrier, then struck and uprooted a tree before coming to rest at the bottom of a small ditch beyond the lot.

The car also damaged some bushes while it was being towed out of the ditch, officers reported.
