Wilmette man cited for DUI in police squad car crash

CHICAGO — A Wilmette man was cited for DUI after a Chicago police squad car was rear-ended early Friday on the North Side, seriously injuring two officers.
Nathaniel Byram, 31, of the 2100 block of West Beachwood Avenue in Wilmette, was cited with DUI, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed, following too close and not having insurance, police said.
A squad car was rear-ended by a civilian vehicle at about 1:40 a.m. in the 2500 block of West Addison Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Two police officers were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and one civilian was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Greer said.
All victims were in serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Byram is scheduled to appear Nov. 1 in traffic court.
