Man charged in Wilmette domestic battery, home invasion case

WILMETTE — Wilmette police have charged a Chicago man with aggravated domestic battery and home invasion after he forced his way into an ex-girlfriend’s Wilmette home and attacked her Sunday night.
Michael Bishop, 49, of 1400 South Michigan Ave. in Chicago has a July 30 court date in Cook County Court, Skokie, Deputy Chief Kyle Perkins said Tuesday. His bond was set Tuesday at $250,000.
According to police, Bishop went to his former girlfriend’s residence on the 700 block of 11th Street shortly after 9 p.m. July 22. He rang the doorbell and, when the 51-year-old victim started to open the door, forced his way in.
Bishop then allegedly throttled the woman, who he had been dating for about two and a half years. He told her he was going to kill her, police said, and forced her to the floor.
The victim kicked Bishop, escaping his grasp. She called 911, and Bishop apparently left the house. The woman was treated for minor lacerations on the scene, Perkins said.
Police arrested him at his Chicago home the next day.
