North Shore Senior Center receives $25,000 grant

NORTHFIELD — North Shore Senior Center is proud to announce that it has been chosen as the recipient of a $25,000 grant to support its services in the areas of Elder Abuse prevention, education and outreach.

The grant is being awarded by the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation in honor of John W. Cruikshank, of Northbrook, in recognition of the volunteer work he has done with North Shore Senior Center.

Established in 1990, the MDRT Foundation’s Quality of Life program recognizes MDRT members for their community involvement. This year, 25 recipients were selected for the award and the MDRT Foundation donated $107,500 to charities in the name of 25 MDRT member volunteers.

Cruikshank was elected to the North Shore Senior Center Board of Directors in 2001 and the Board of Trustees of the North Shore Senior Center Foundation in 2006. He has served on the personnel, resource development, finance, and board development committees. In 2008, he became Chair of the Board of Directors. Cruikshank has led several major initiatives including: engaging professional consultants for brand development; improving the board’s effectiveness through revisions to the bylaws; updating the board development committee’s operating guidelines and selection criteria, as well as enlarging the group to encourage new and varied ideas.

Cruikshank has represented Northwestern Mutual since he entered the life insurance business in l959. Cruikshank is one of the Northwestern’s best known representatives. He twice ranked within the Company’s exclusive Top 20 agents, and served as President of Special Agents, Inc., the organization that represents Northwestern’s more than 7,000 representatives. In 1994-95, he was President of Northwestern’s Association of Agents, the organization responsible for planning and conducting the Annual Meeting for the Company’s sales and management field force. From 1978-1996, he lectured twice a year on best business practices at the Northwestern’s Advanced Marketing School.
