Fast-moving storm leaves hail, downed power lines in its wake

The storm didn’t stick around for long Friday morning, but it brought down power lines and scattered hail across the Chicago area.
The National Weather Service reported about a quarter-inch of rain fell at O’Hare International Airport. Winds estimated at 60 mph brought down power lines in Geneva, according to the weather service.
Inch-sized hail was reported in Crete, South Holland, and Crown Point, Ind.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Chicago area Friday morning. The warning, in effect from about 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., included Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will, Kendall and eastern Dekalb counties, according to the weather service.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 6 p.m.
The rest of the day Friday was expected to be partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with temps in the lower 70s, according to the weather service.
Saturday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the low 90s.
