Teens say armed man with handgun approached them at Avoca West

Glenview police were still investigating a case last week of a masked individual who approached two teenagers with what resembled a handgun at Avoca West Elementary School, 235 Beech Drive.
At 8:50 on May 31, when one of the teenagers threatened to call police, the person left with another individual, also wearing a ski mask.
Police said the person who pulled a black handgun made motions as if loading it, which may have been a BB gun or an air soft pistol.
Both suspects were 30 feet away when the weapon was shown, and they wore dark-colored shorts, orange or maroon sweaters, hooded sweatshirts and ski masks.
No projectiles were found at the scene to indicate a gun was fired, police said.
On Tuesday morning, Police Sgt. David Sostak said investigators had no new information to report.
Avoca Superintendent Kevin Jauch said parents received email alerts of the incident.
“We want to get information of this sort out to parents as quickly and reliably as possible. I’ve been here six years, and parents know information will come electronically,” he said.
“We can reach parents through emails at mom’s work or at home and all the places where we have their emails.”
Avoca School serves Glenview, Winnetka, Wilmette and Northfield.
“We really don’t know what happened yet, so students were not receiving counseling of the incident,” Jauch said.
