Romona Elementary School’s auditorium stands a little bit closer to new theater lighting and a brand new projector system, thanks to the successful second annual Red Gala fund-raiser held Feb. 10 at the Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette. The event, organized by the Romona PTA, had a great turnout, co-chair Tracy Kearney said Tuesday. Attendees enjoyed a buffet dinner and took part in the gala’s auction.
The gala successfully met the goal organizers had of raising money toward their “Lights, Camera, Auditorium” project, Kearney said. Although the proceeds have not yet been completely totaled, “I think it’s safe to say that we have been able to clear $15,000,” she said; organizers hope the total will rise even more. Kearney also praised Romona alumni for helping with donations, PTA supporters hope to replace the school’s aging theater and projection systems with new state of the art equipment, timing the installation to take place while School District 39 undertakes other auditorium and school renovations.
