The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Wilmette and Kenilworth police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court, Skokie, unless indicated otherwise.
Wilmette
ALCOHOL
Police arrested two men Jan. 28 following a traffic stop on the 100 block of Green Bay Road, and issued local ordinance tickets to both for alleged unlawful possession of alcohol, after finding that one 21-year-old man had purchased 12 cases of beer for the other man, who was 20. The officer issued tickets to Michael Kim, 20, of 418 Farrington in Lincolnshire, and to Benjamin Shartar, 21, of 5530 Errol Place in Atlanta, Ga. The initial report didn’t indicate what court date the two might have.
RETAIL THEFT
The manager of the Walgreens pharmacy, 811 Green Bay Road, told police Jan. 24 that a man stole $2,000 worth of over-the-counter Mucinex brand anti-mucous medication, filling a basket with boxes of the items and leaving without paying. The man spoke to both the manager and another employee before taking the items, and he was caught on security cameras as he left with them. Another witness saw the man get into a green 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor, in which a woman was waiting, then drive quickly out of the parking lot, narrowly missing some pedestrians. The car was later involved in a traffic crash in Chicago. Although the woman was held by Chicago police and gave police the name of her male companion, he was gone. The car was towed to the Wilmette Police Department, where officers found two boxes of the medication on the floor of the vehicle.
THEFT
A Wilmette resident told police Jan. 26 that she had left a diamond bracelet valued at $2,000 at a jewelry and antiques repair shop on the 1100 block of Central Avenue on Oct. 1. She said that when she remembered to go back and pick it up Dec. 30, the owner said they did not have her bracelet. Police reported that the woman did not have a receipt. The store owner told police the woman had left a bracelet for repair, but had done so several years earlier.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A security officer at the Baha’i House of Worship told police Jan. 24 that someone wrote the word “die” in white chalk on the front of the property. Police who checked the area found similar graffiti in front of three stores on the 400 block of Linden Avenue and in front of an apartment building on the same block.
Kenilworth
DRUGS
Theodore Blanchard, 19, of 2611 Park Place in Evanston, was given a local ordinance ticket for allegedly possessing marijuana, following a Jan. 29 traffic stop that ended on the 200 block of Sheridan Road.
