As many as 400 moms, dads, kids and other Romona Elementary School community supporters played games, enjoyed hot dogs and sushi, and enjoyed a respite from winter weather at the annual Romona Winterfest Carnival, held Saturday in the school gymnasium and cafeteria.
The event, a longstanding tradition at Romona, provides an opportunity for parents and students alike to meet in a non-school day social situation, mingle with staff members and visit with former Romona students. The carnival also raises money for the PTA’s enrichment programs, co-organizer Julia Kuras said this week. This year, 130 volunteers, including parents and school alumni from fifth grade through high school, helped run game booths and provide the popcorn, hot dogs and multicultural refreshments available in the cafeteria.
