The Wilmette Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to renew its accreditation. The purpose of the on-site assessment is to enable outside law enforcement authorities to determine whether or not the Wilmette Police Department complies with all required professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art professional standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
As a part of the on-site assessment, Wilmette police employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public comment session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30. The session will be conducted in the council chambers of the Wilmette Village Board, on the second floor of Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave.
Wilmette police employees and the public are also invited to offer comments to the assessment team between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday by directly calling (847) 853-7554. Comments also may be sent by fax at (847) 256-2739 from now until Jan. 31.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Wilmette Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Gainesville VA 20155.
Questions concerning the accreditation commission, standards for accreditation and/or the accreditation process may be directed to Syndy Nugent, the Wilmette Police Department’s management analyst, at (847) 853-7565 or by email to nugents@wilmette.com.
