First-graders at Central School in Wilmette got to enjoy a whirl of color and motion, and experience a taste of Mexican culture, when members of Chicago’s Ballet Folklorico Revolucion dance troupe visited the school Jan. 13.
The group’s appearance is an annual event at Central; the performers integrate fine arts, social studies and language arts into its dancing curriculum. Its yearly performance is funded by the school PTA, as an enrichment activity that dovetails with studies the children are doing on the world’s different countries. The PTA also uses donations to fund and organize other enrichment performances and activities for students at Central.
