Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold an unwrapped Toy Collection for families in need as a Mitzvah (good deed) Project for 2012. This Chanukah/Holiday season the toys will be given to The Ark for distribution to the children and their families. Drop off is at the North Shore office, 3000 Dundee #313 in Northbrook from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.; 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Fridays. Toys are being collected now. There will also be a raffle, a silent auction and a bake sale at the bazaar. The vendors have agreed to donate at least twenty percent of their sales to The Friends of Bari Rubenstein Fund. Suggested entrance fee of $5 donation. Bari Levy Rubenstein contracted a staph infection in August of 2011 that attacked her spine and left her a quadriplegic and permanently on a ventilator. She is the mother of four small children under the age of 7, and was the sole provider for her family prior to this tragedy. The Gateway Cancer for Research Cures 2012: 6 p.m. Nov. 3. Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, 200 N. Columbus, Chicago. This evening will celebrate bold new cancer research and innovative treatments from clinical trials currently being funded by The Gateway. The Gala will raise money to fund additional cancer research to help continue the battle to find better treatments and cures for today’s cancer patients. Park Ridge Board of Northwestern Settlement Assn. “Cherub Brunch”: 11 a.m., Nov. 18, Park Ridge Country Club, 636 N. Prospect, Park Ridge. Tickets are $60. The proceeds from the benefit directly support the Settlement’s Food Pantry and Emergency Services Program. Last year the Settlement provided food, financial assistance and other services to more than 8,000 low-income neighbors. The Northwestern University Settlement Association is one of the country’s last traditional settlement houses, and has served Chicago’s Northwest side community since 1891. The settlement provides assistance to those in poverty and gives them the means to break from the cycle of welfare into a self-productive life. The Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society’s seventh annual All Aboard! Party: 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29, Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. Co-chaired by Gail Miller and Alicia Crawford, both of Lake Forest, the theme of this year’s dinner is “The Splendor of Imperial Russia.” Evening features entertainment, cocktail reception complemented by a caviar and vodka bar, performance by “Golosa,” a Russian singing ensemble. At this point, we are not running the Save the Date column in print; however, the situation may change in the future.

Since there are more events on the social calendar than we can possibly attend to cover, Debbie can provide you with guidelines for post-event coverage. Event chairwomen need to provide a post-event press release and high-resolution photographs (with full names and hometowns) of guests. Please include your photographer’s name so we can give proper credit. We no longer assign photographers to events we don’t cover. Many guests have cameras on their cell phones, and we’re happy to accept those images.
