Expect a hearty blend of puppetry and comedy when Dave Herzog’s Marionettes presents “Puppet Soup” from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the Lake Forest Children’s Library, 360 E. Deerpath.

“The host of the show is Chef Wolfgang von Hasenpfeffer, the world famous Bavarian chef, who has come to cook up a batch of puppet soup for everybody,” Herzog said.

There are 15 marionette performers in the chef’s variety show. “Each one represents a different type of food,” Herzog said.

The ingredients/performers include Chicago Red, a 2-foot-tall hot dog on rollerblades; juggler Carmen Ensalada; and Julius and Liesl, “our Oktoberfest oompah dancers, who have eaten so much schnitzel they have to get up and dance,” Herzog said.

There’s also a missing marionette that turns up in the most surprising way.

“Miss Tutti Frutti gets so flustered she falls all apart,” Herzog said. But she manages to pull herself back together.
