Don’t invite a boa constrictor to dinner.

“It wraps its body around the body of a mouse, suffocating it and then swallows it whole,” said Jim Walser of Chicago Region Interpreters. He will share other tales about the strange eating habits of certain creatures during “Delicious Wild Food Delicacies” from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Lake Forest Children’s Library, 360 E. Deerpath.

Walser created the show to reinforce the library’s summer reading program, Reading Is So Delicious.

“I’ve collected some of my favorite stories that have to do with food,” Walser said.

One of those is “I’m Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor.” Walser tells the stories in character, alternating them with live animals.

He won’t bring a boa to the library, but he will bring a corn snake.

“It kills its food the same way that a boa would,” Walser said.

Free tickets will be available starting at 1 p.m. performance day.
