CTW to host ‘Shrek’ auditions next month

Children living in New Trier Township interested in joining the cast of “Shrek the Musical” are invited to attend auditions held the first week of September in Winnetka.

A Children’s Theatre of Winnetka production, the musical is based on the Academy Award-winning DreamWorks Animation film “Shrek.”

“This is a great play for kids because there are so many parts,” said Director Cathy Hirschmann. “It also teaches them to not judge people by the way they look, but by what’s inside them. That’s why I chose this play. This is such an important life lesson.”

With the rights to “Shrek” having recently been released, the CTW’s musical production of everyone’s favorite ogre will be one of the first.

“Cathy and I are looking forward to directing and choreographing ‘Shrek,’” said Co-director Toby Nichoson. “It will take nine cast members to work the dragon. There are lots of parts for fourth through eighth graders.”

Auditions are to be held at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., for fourth- through eighth-grade children living in New Trier Township.

Fourth- and fifth-grade students are invited to audition at 4 p.m. while sixth- through eighth-grade auditions begin at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 and 3.

Callbacks will begin at 4 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5. Rehearsals will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays after school and Saturday mornings.

Performances of “Shrek the Musical” will run Nov. 20-23 at the Winnetka Community House.
