FOX LAKE — In a close battle, the Grant wrestling team held off Barrington 28-25 in the Bulldogs’ own Class 3A Dual Team Sectional Tuesday night

“This was two great programs going at it in an epic battle,” Barrington coach Ken Hoving said. “We knew it would be a dogfight, and when they squeaked one out at 120 (pounds), that changed the dual. Everybody wrestled tough — hats off to (Grant).”

Grant junior Troy Parent defeated Barrington senior Miguel Camarera 4-2 in overtime at 120 pounds, giving the Bulldogs a 25-19 lead. A win at 126 made it 28-19. Barrington scored six points with a forfeit at 132 to conclude the dual meet.

On the opposite mat, Harlem knocked off New Trier 45-30.

The Trevians dug an early hole and trailed 21-6 after six matches. New Trier pulled within 27-24 on a pin by junior Shayan Hossein at 106, but was down 33-24 before a forfeit win at 120 made it 33-30. Harlem won the last two matches.

“I was proud of the way our guys stepped up,” New Trier coach Marc Tadelman said. “We put 30 points on the board against a very good team.”
