Copies of voters’ signatures missing at Park Ridge polling place

PARK RIDGE — As residents of Park Ridge’s Precinct 87 lined up to vote at Maine South High School this morning, they discovered a problem.
The precinct’s book of registered-voter signatures had not been delivered, despite calls to Cook County election officials that began the previous night, according to election judge Mary Hennelly. Judges were still working without the book at 3:30 p.m.
Without the proper documents for voters to sign, election judges worked off an updated eligible voter list from Cook County and asked voters to sign a separate piece of paper. Signatures were compared to the voter’s driver’s license or state ID signature, said Hennelly.
This process did not sit well with voter Sherri Fink who said she was just asked for her name and address and told to sign a sheet of paper.
“Something is not right here and I didn’t feel comfortable with my vote at all,” she said. “There’s no way to cross-reference who is coming in to vote.”
Courtney Greve, spokeswoman for the Cook County Clerk’s Office, said the signature book had been delivered to another precinct. She added that election judges had spoken to the Cook County Clerk’s Office legal team who agreed with the system they had put in place.
“It’s an unusual situation, but it had a good outcome because voting continued,” Greve said.
The votes will be counted tonight, she added.
