Wilmette and Kenilworth police blotter for June 28, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Wilmette and Kenilworth Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court, Skokie, unless indicated otherwise.

WILMETTE

DUI

Police arrested Justin Vorpahl, 23, of 110 High Oak in Denton, Texas, on June 23 and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, following an incident which ended at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Hibbard Road. The report didn’t give his initial court date.

Michael Wojciechowski, 19, of 50 Prospect in Larchmont, New York, is scheduled to appear July 11 in Cook County Court on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, improper lane use and driving without insurance, following a June 16 traffic stop that took place on the 800 block of Hibbard Road.

Wojciech Jasinski, 22, of 9529 Bronx Ave. in Skokie, is scheduled to appear July 20 in Cook County Court on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use and improperly stopping on the road, following a June 16 traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Old Orchard Road.

ALCOHOL

Police who got complaints about a loud party continuing at 11:49 p.m. June 16 in the 600 block of Ridge visited the residence to check for possible underage drinking. They spoke with a 16-year-old visibly intoxicated girl who admitted her mother was out of town. The underage 18-year-old guests were all picked up by parents or taken home by sober companions. The host was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor; her mother will receive a village ordinance “parental responsibility” ticket when she returns home.

DRUGS

Police arrested a 17-year-old Wilmette resident June 23, after picking him up shortly before 2 a.m. as he walked through the Wilmette Public Library lot toward a friend’s house. They were in the process of taking him home, after his mother told them by phone that she didn’t know he’d left the house, when they discovered he had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. He was given a local ordinance ticket for marijuana possession and is set to appear July 11 in Cook County Court.

BURGLARY

Police said June 18 that someone broke into a Chicago woman’s car while it was parked in the Centennial Park complex lot at 2300 Old Glenview Road, shattering a window and taking a purse. The initial loss was estimated at about $250. Officers were called to the complex after a patron told one of the managers about seeing the shattered window. The same day an Evanston woman told police her car window was shattered as it stood in the lot. Someone took her purse and another bag. Her loss and damage were estimated at $380.A Winnetka woman told police June 18 that someone broke into her car while it was parked in the Westmoreland Country Club lot at 2601 Old Glenview Road, and stole her purse. A window was broken to gain entry, causing an estimated $1,000 to the rear and front passenger windows. The purse was estimated at $200 and it contained about $100 in cash.

THEFT

Maurika Jackson, 25, of 11555 S. Sangamon in Chicago, is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court July 23 on a charge of theft, following a June 23 incident at the Jewel grocery store, 411 Green Bay Road. Officers arrested her after a store manager caught her allegedly putting items back on the shelf and she admitted she had taken them in the first place. Police said Jackson told them she had planned to take the items and resell them in Chicago to raise money to pay her rent.

Clarence E. Wilson, 44, of 2039 Darrow in Evanston. is scheduled to appear July 11 in Cook County Court on a charge of theft, following a June 18 incident that started on the 400 block of Ridge Road. Police were called to that block after getting reports of a bicycle theft in progress. They eventually found Wilson riding the bike on the 1900 block of Lake Avenue.

A resident of the 2300 block of Birchwood Avenue told police June 23 that someone took jewelry and cash valued at an estimated $3,500 from the home, sometime between March 1 and June 16. The resident suspected an employee he hired to care for his wife. The woman was returning to her home country of Romania, the man said.

A Des Plaines woman who works at North Shore Kitchen and Bath, 3207 Lake Ave., told police June 23 that someone stole her wallet from her purse while she was working. Her credit card was later used to make purchases totaling $6,961 on one of her credit cards. The card was used at Nordstroms, Bloomingdales and Coach. The woman learned of the purchases when the credit card company called her. She told police there had been two women in the store at the time her card might have been taken.

Michelle Johnson, 27, of 6308 S. Maplewood in Chicago, was arrested June 20 in Chicago by Chicago police and held for Wilmette police in connection with the use of credit cards taken in a Jan. 31 theft at Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave. In that incident a woman said her wallet and car keys had been taken from the purse she hung on the back of her chair while eating. The June 20 report didn’t indicate Johnson’s court date.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

An Evanston woman told police June 15 that someone damaged the rear passenger side door of her car while it was parked in the Centennial Park complex at 2300 Old Glenview Road.

KENILWORTH

ALCOHOL

Garrison Benson, 20, of 361 Hawthorn in Winnetka, and Jeffrey Wilcox, 19, of 889 Elm in Winnetka, received village ordinance tickets for illegally consuming alcohol, following a June 23 traffic stop made on the 300 block of Sheridan Road.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 100 block of Robsart Road told police June 19 that someone got into his unlocked vehicle and took a gaming console and six games, valued at $540. Another resident on the same block reported June 22 that someone got into her unlocked vehicle sometime between June 18 and 22 and took $2.
